Your credit will be ruined if the ex decides to stop or simply can’t pay the mortgage and the mortgage holder isn’t going to care that the ex was suppose to be paying it.

(We are retired now due to his cancer).

I've converted a dining room and a den in a property I lived in for a few years and rented extra bedrooms out, never had any issues and also didn't have to ruin the house with a senseless rehab to add a "legal bedroom".

I am sure it has been said on these forums before BUT:  A bad operator can ruin a good project and a great operator can make a bad project manageable!  

I have an older army veteran who lost his wife of over 30 years to cancer earlier this year and is now looking to sell what once was their home.

I understand that ruins your financing plans but it may be your cheapest option overall.  

But here is the twist, the tenant is a paralyzed veteran and they don't want to ruin his life buy evicting him.

Scott if Charles has good credit he might not want to ruin credit with a foreclosure for awhile.The lower credit score will affect rates on credit cards, car loans etc. for awhile until it rebounds.
