BetseyWe have listed our properties on Google Business .Since doing that, we are running about 50/50 of people coming directly to our web site and going through HomeAway ,VRBO or Trip Advisor or Flip KeyOur Season is almost 85% word of mouth. which really helps cut down booking fees.We have seen and been told that during season once guest find a place they book for the following year because if they don't they won't be able to get in.We have been doing this going on 3 seasons now, when we bought the place we inherited a couple of guest that have been staying on the property.

The USGS also has some live stream web cams, like this one in Florence SC, that can be helpful when trying to gauge conditions at times like this when the Carolinas are experiencing widespread flooding.

I guess you would need some one to crawl up on the roof and make sure its OK.. but basically I have not seen more bullet proof rentals that all those row houses I have been funding in Philly and BALT... much much easier that 4 walls and larger roofs et.

.- Landscaping, add nice garden up front, trim trees, remove overgrown vines from house siding- Remove old walkway and replace with new right angle walkway to driveway instead of street- Fix up front porch, new concrete probably- Repair any problem siding- Flooring has some unevenness, joists in crawl space/basement need to be added or adjusted.- Exterior paint, interior paint - HVAC and water heater appear new, roof appears new- Interior has some water stain marks, replace drywall patches- Replace kitchen with modern cabinets, granite, appliances- Oak floors downstairs hopefully can be refinished- Replace carpet upstairs with composite flooring or nice carpet - stairs are carpeted!
