There's not just taxes and repairs but also insurance, vacancy, water/gas/electric/internet, garden and maybe putting something aside for once-in-a-lifetime big overhauls (roof for example) every month.

If things get REALLY bad, then yes, things like rationing, inability to water lawns/gardens, etc. may cause demand problems in those markets.

@Adam McLellan There are subdivisions with low HOA, but they have fewer amenities - cable, gardening, clubhouse, tennis courts, etc so you will have to pay those.
