I have done everything the right way, the ethical way, treating people with honesty and respect.. treating the market and the process with respect (not cutting any corners, permits, etc) and it seems like I have been beaten down at every turn and now I am at risk of losing everything I have worked hard for years to obtain. 

Selling could net a large profit, but holding these assets could significantly build wealth, especially in appreciating markets.

A larger down payment is required to cash flow in many markets.

The plan for this home is to try it out on the STR market for a few years OR possibly cash out on the investment as I do feel we could sell for much more than we have invested. 

., two of the markets that I frequent are mostly 7-day minimums during the high season.
