It's no fault to the builders, efficiency is not yet a market driver, so they have not incorporated it into their product.The only highly efficient homes around here (2-Passivhaus and a handful of millennial homes) were custom builds and higher end - with the exception of the new Habitat home.

It was nice to visit... but the first 30 minutes of being in town was the hotel van driver telling me how worried he was about the storm they were expecting that was on its way.It all made me a bit nervous... but the storm just passed on by.

In general, you want to be close to one of major drivers of employment and tenants such as one of the JHU institutions.

Just like you can't predict what car will win the race without taking into account the driver :-), vacation rentals can vary based on marketing and management approach. 

-Get address or drivers license of Officers of the Corporation(s) in case you have to take anyone to court-Ensure all leasehold improvements committed by the landlord are complete and you aren't on the hook-Check title - (not sure if they have this in the US) make sure there are no Liens on the property or property taxes in arrears (or utilities for that matter)-Check with city to make sure the use of the building matches what they have on record... don't want to pickup a non-conforming use! 

You'll definitely miss out on good opportunities if that's a key driver.
