Booking windows have shrunk quite a bit as well.

The part about common sense going out the window when taxes are really high I have experienced first hand and in my prior career in tech personally did.

I think even the REITS and syndications should only use Fixed to cover their investment harvest window.  

Some settling of a property is to be expected but if it significant enough to be causing issues such as slanted floors, door openings not being square, windows that won't open, etc.
