Be humble or get humbled is the choice as I see it ... this is not true when the market is good, but boy does it ever become true when it turns.

My thoughts were to build up some equity along the way and get locked into a good interest rate on a humble starter home and then when I sell 5-7 years down the road and trade up, I can use that equity (from appreciation, forced appreciation, and payments towards principle) towards a downpayment on our true family home.

Yes Bergen Lafayette is The nextup-and-coming neighborhood in Jersey City although you have to be pretty acquainted with the area since there are still some sketchy streets the neighborhood, The Heights is a great neighborhood but it is already overpriced by far, That's just my humble opinion, do we have any of their BP investors active in JC?
