Is it cheaper for the purchaser to obtain permits or the contracting company/architect?

After deciding to build I met with my architect and engineers.

I'm not affiliated with this project in any way but as an architect who may want space to start up an architect/development company this has appeal in lowering startup costs.

I am an architect with 25 years of designing and construction experience.

Unless you hire a crazy architect.

However it must be in a good or better location.Suggest you talk to an architect  .

I am discussing with an architect and civil engineer on what can be built in this lot.

Long story short, I took over another route in downtown Greenville, SC, where all the top notch people of the city worked (millionaires, bankers, architects, etc.) while still having my help do my original route at now a 50/50 split.

This changes the square footage of your house, which is on record with the city/county, so even if they don't bust you during construction it'll come back to bite you when you go to sell or refi.IMO it doesn't really matter who pulls the permits - it could be the owner, architect, or contractor - as long as someone is responsible for that aspect of the project.
