Bruce, the rental registration fee in Garland pays for inspectors that ONLY look at rental properties.

You're better off hiring a great home inspector who can determine defects.

You can drive to inspect or perform basic handyman maintenance.

I’m in the Indianapolis area and am looking into Airbnb.

It does take about 30 days for section 8 to send out an inspector and approve the unit for move-in but all in all it can be a pretty quick process.

He’s rolling the dice, city inspectors usually don’t go looking for things like that unless someone is squealing.  

Then you have an independent inspector inspect.

Your acquisition manager should paint a picture of how it will look after you go under-contract, mentioning that you'll need to send an inspector, contractors, and/or partners, and that it usually takes 2 or 3 visits.
