Depending on the type of roof, patching is not generally a long term solution.

So it would be safe to say we will have a slow down and it will be rough patch but figured we would get through the mess.

You may be able to cut out the section of the pipe that is leaking and patch it using Fernco fittings.

It just will be much harder for STR to stick through this rough patch than LTR.

Living room or someplace highly visible where a drywall patch, multiple coats of tape/mudd/texture, and paint will be needed: I’d start asking why they can’t just cut the back out of the sink cabinet to do their work because what might be easier for the plumber may take multiple days and trips from a drywaller and painter.
