and sadly from my POV all this churn of older homes is destroying the older home stock that should be preserved as guess what - they dont make that kind of home anymore....... 

Martin: Sadly the minimum building code for in Canada only requires R20 insulation wall cavities and does not require measures be taken to mitigate thermal bridging.
