They all appreciate but peninsula is more stable in downturns and recovers the fastest, I witnessed this myself in 2012 further in east bay was still about 40% down and peninsula and "tech" cities already recovered fully.I am not sure you need a loan or not, recently I asked my mortgage broker he told me for a second home it would need to be at least 50 miles away and also in a city known for vacation activity .   

The 4th property was a beautiful .5 acre wooded lot in a sought after school district!

My insurance guy for the past 2.5 years has been at wits end because he had to continue to deliver bad news on referrals and estimates for new properties.

I had one that took about a year, full title search and expert witness testimony in court because even though the neighbors agreed to sign, one of their mortgage companies refused.

A 50x more beautiful single family in Montgomery AL would be priced 1/10 compared to a similar house in CA.

My feeling is, if I wanted a house that backed to a park that is what I bought, and if other people wanted a house on a road, they should buy one and not destroy the neighborhood to put in yet another “luxury” cookie cutter house.I feel the same way about homes that are perfectly wonderful and function beautifully with separate rooms that have tons of character.
