I haven't yet bought RE but my first purchase will be owner financed & occupied with the goal of using sites like home away & Airbnb to rent out accessory units.

Does anyone have experience with accessory apartments? 

If you are going to stage I'd imagine you'd like a place to store a majority of your furniture and accessories.

Brian, I once lived in a condo and rented the one right next door with no problems or issues, slightly different context than sf and actually shared a wall even...But I do know many people who even live closer with accessory (or in-law) apts and make it work.

I'm an architect as well and I'm going to add an Accessory dwelling unit to it as well.

Based on the zoning you will find out if a MIL or Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) is allowable. 

This property is zoned U-SU-C1 which allows for Accessory Dwelling Units.

I've met lots a local investors and have made some great contacts through local Meet ups and REI's but I'm hoping these contacts aren't as coveted as the subcontractors so I thought I would at least ask the BP Forum Groups.  

Cupertino and Palo Alto great examples by @Jay Hinrichs  Both cities are highly coveted because of the schools and values reflect that.
