If you end up submetering your water, I use Kamstrup, about $180 a pop just for the meter but they are real quality tangible product with a 40 year capacitor, need to find a dealer near you. meters are wireless and get a charge from the water moving through them . picks up the signal well to my PC.

I’m about 9 hours away so i rely on smart systems- WiFi thermostats(ecobee), door locks(encode), mesh WiFi system(deco), WiFi water sensors, WiFi light switches(so i can leave a light on for late arrivals), i use wireless solar camera's which are probably the least fancy but get the job done and i only check them when there are issues or looking at the weather.

They're wireless now, so you can read the usage remotely (assuming you can get a WiFi connection).
