I'm thinking in the solid rental neighborhoods (no bad areas but not high end either).The goal would be to find a place to live for cash near family, and use some of my remaining nest egg to fire up the investment machine and generate income.

I have a rental that is 50 years old and it really needed insulation so I went to Lowes and bought the blown in cellulose and if you buy like 25 bags you can rent machine for free.

Ask him to simply deposit your refund, and then you can take it out of the ATM machine in India.Pay your rent through the end of the lease, but ask the landlord to take the keys and take back possession as you are leaving.If he can find a tenant before your end of lease date, he should refund the rent for those days to you.You would not find very many landlords who will allow you to use your deposit as last month's rent.
