Taxes are half the cost compared to CA and insurance is lower if not by the water.

In NYC trying to compare like properties and eliminating co - op debt, co-ops will sell for 60% to 200% of a comparable condo.  

You will lose one of the best benefits of the real estate industry, appreciation.

@John Kirtley It's definitely gone up a lot in value, but you can compare the values to Folly or Isle of Palms (Sullivans isn't really comparable) to see the future growth.

To be able to dispose of assets when we want, to be able to sell easily (single-family homes are pretty easy to sell compared to apartment buildings), and to know that we are in control of our destiny, is worth a lot to me.Also, we can get 18 more mortgages between my wife and me before we have to worry about running out of government-subsidized financing, and hundreds of thousands in future investments before we have to worry about scale.

I agree with others that not all the companies are created equally and I would take the time out to compare them.
