I have an applicant for a recently renovated high rise condo who is a retired librarian with no dependents.

(We're a little more price sensitive on the lending side, so we brag among ourselves about how our go-to escrow gal looks/acts/etc like an old librarian.)- Appraisal fee, the lender also isn't allowed to make money on or there's millions of dollars in fines.

I quit my full-time job as a librarian so I could spend more time with my wife and soon-to-be 3-years-old (on Dec. 1st) daughter.

It's  fairly loose process at this stage, at lease where I am, get a computer at the public library, pass the test then call the librarian back to sign off on it with their email address. 

I've held jobs as welder, jeweler, diamond cutter, Baker, postman, motorcycle/watercraft mechanic, etc... wife had several odd jobs as well, from swamp meet concessions, to house cleaner, to Gym Juice bar, to telemarketer, to Librarian.

Just that if your parents, uncles, teachers, guidance counselors, mailman, librarian told you, you can be more than just an everyday 9-5er you might just try it out!
