If it was straight up that would be different, but the way it curves around, I would think you could start the driveway further south across the front of the house which would lengthen the driveway and allow for a less steep grade.  

If, for example I were going through an eviction and/or late rent process, and I accept partial payment that gets applied to rent, then I've lengthened the amount of time the tenant can continue to live there without paying full rent.
