First, the whole apartment smelled like pot (illegal in Indiana), then we found some of it in two of the rooms, dog pee stains on the carpet, multiple pieces of furniture left in the rooms, trash everywhere, animals in the freezer, full fridge, mold in the bathroom, chewed up internet cords, and holes in the carpet.

We now allow pets on a case by case basis, typically small dogs (out of the puppy stage - to avoid chewing issues- and prior to elderly ages).

@David WolfWhen we purchase an old building like this we just start chewing away at updating it bit by bit: this summer we had half of a 120 yr old duplex vacant for two months, so we gutted it back to the studs, put 3" of closed cell insulation, EnergyStar windows and doors; moved a few walls around and refinished the floors.
