I posted on Criaglist, Apartment.com and placed a sign on the properties with my contact info. the phone went off the hook, ringing from 9 am to 10 pm 7 days of the week.

Weighing in late to the party, but I'll throw my hat in the ring: It depends.Bottom Line up Front: For the median person making $54k a year there is a lot to be said for forgoing the 401k and investing solely in RE.

@Ray Harrell I don't think there's a super secret decoder ring that someone gets when they join that "portfolio expansion" secret society. 

He makes $24 an hour, is married, and has a 3 year old at home.The other guy got back $3,000 on his tax return and spent almost the entire thing buying his wife a fancy diamond ring.
