I would be extremely cautious if you are working with these guys - I will say that we worked through an independent broker but our experience has not been good. 

I would be cautious esp since you are going to live there.  

Be cautious of cities that aren't proactive in job attraction; too much growth can lead to strict building regulations, affecting housing value.

That said, being cautious with STRs is certainly good advice.

I would be very cautious buying RE right now.

If your new to real estate and need some motivation/ guidance it real easy to get caught up in the smoke and mirrors be cautious of that because people will try and take advantage of you first chance they get.

We of course have to consider holding costs if we stop work, so I am trying to weigh a full stop on the job or continuing work cautiously with no contact between workers.Let me know your thoughts!!!
