You need some sort of edge or border to contain the backsplash where it belongs. If you are using a ceramic or porcelain tile you should be able to get a pencil edge in the same product line.If you are using a glass or mosaic tile the only option often is aluminum edge trim which any tile store has to offer.

Or when you've got good friends or co workers that time and time again buy a brand new $300k+ single family house to live in on $50k to $60k a year salary, and they show you the house with big smiles asking your opinion on what they should do with all the landscaping or what types of ridiculously expensive art pieces they should buy, or how they want to rip up the brand new porcelain tiles because "the wifey wants new travertine in the brand spankin new house" and all you can do is think about the incredibly terrible "investment" they just made was as I drive off in my 1997 Toyota Tacoma with $270k miles on it, but financially sound.

Jared Smith Do you chose Granite or Formica?
18 August 2016 | 20 replies
do granite if you can find one of the independents with the tools/connections.... half bulnose/flat in a pattern and really common color.ikea has really cheap formica (almost to the point of per/renter  expandable) but you need a quick and good handyman.formica also makes solid surface (not just foil)... not sure how it handles a hot pot and knife cutting....you can also do really large porcelain/granite tiles (18-20"+ inches) with very thin grout lines...concrete can go with a very good sealer, and somebody who knows what to do.but in the end, you want something you can replicate again and again with not a lot of headaches down the road...continuous success

If the contractor is professional and experienced they will give you this upfront without you asking for it to protect themselves as well and be sure everyone is on the same page Example: if your doing tile work you want to know if it's going to be marble, porcelain etc. make sure the contractor is not planning to use dirt cheap crappy material that is not going to give you a nice looking quick sale house.

Sometimes the former owner will trash the house (pull all electrical wires out of the walls, pour concrete down the sinks and tubs, break the porcelain, make big holes in the walls, break all of the windows and that's on a good day. Most foreclosures have deferred maintenance.
