In the seller's agent's defense, it's not a game. 

While an LLC can lend money to its members, such action must be approved as set forth in the operating agreement and should be documented by a written note that pays adequate interest and is subject to commercially reasonable terms.These steps will also provide a better defense against other creditors attempting to pierce the LLC veil.

Amazing as this sounds it could be as simple as clogged gutters .The sump pump is the last line of defense not the first .Sump placement is very important,with that age there is good chance of no drain  around the foundations .Funny story last house Iived in flooded when I was selling it had to cancel he open house .Installed a sump pump after hauling 12 yards of dirt,gutter work over .

In my defense, it's a cinder block house, cinder block walls, and it's boarded up now, so it's a legit prison scenario!

If they didn't have this policy...your landlord policy would be the first line of defense.

@Anthony Rosa I’m sure we messed up by not having this stuff taken care of before putting the condo up for rent, but in our defense we had a month to figure all of this out and move across the country.

Ignorance of the law is not a defense, so you could accidentally find yourself in legal trouble.
