We are a Island located 45 minutes away from Houston Hobby's Intl Airport (SWA hub). 

I drove that area too, and it's a pretty stark contrast between those 500k properties on the hill near the river and the original homes adjacent. 

Ponce is the 2nd largest city, but it is far from the main airport and hustle and bustle, so I don't know how well that would work out comparatively.

But after I figured it all out, I broke up with her by sending her a cell phone message from a seat on an Airbus on the runway of the Athens airport, as the engines warmed up for takeoff for my flight back to the USA.

I noticed that it was less than a 7-minute drive from the Athens airport, University of Georgia, Sanford Stadium, and the Tree That Owns Itself, etc. - all hot spots that could potentially be good for visitors. 

In all seriousness, if you have a major airport within 30 minutes and there are good attractions near by, vacation rentals can be done anywhere. 

(The attached unit, 111 E Steele went for $2,300 on 10/21/14).  719 Guernsey was a single family home (new construction, directly adjacent to commercial) that rented for $2,750 on 11/6/14.  3 bedrooms, 2.5 bathrooms, 1,846 SF.  615 Vassar is a 4 br, 3.5 ba townhouse, 3,547 SF rented for $2,800 on 11/10/14.  

(once where a fridge leaked water in an adjacent kitchen and once when tenants left a door open during a heavy rain.)So how durable is lvt in the floating plank variety?

Quintana Roo has the 4th largest airport in Latin America by volumne of passengers (15M), and now a second airport in Tulum is being built with the capacity to serve 4 million pasaangers. 

Depending on your budget, if you're open to exploring new and promising opportunities under $400K, there's also an emerging market that opened up due to the Mayan train and the new tulum airport that is worth considering.Greetings from the Mexican Caribbean!
