My first thoughts in reading your post is that we were able to buy a lot of houses while we were in the military, taking money from deployments or tax-free income to buy houses, which we did over time.     

Also, depending on the part of town the home is in, it may be a great rental for military families or individual military renters.

I do know they offer veteran/military discount, make sure to ask if your active duty or veteran.
