I don’t know what was involved. 

Although that would be looked down upon by a lender as well because of the inherent risk of lending to someone who has too much on their plate. 

It's not super amazing returns, but at the same time - it seems like a fairly low risk investment with Ann Arbor's large student body and continued demand for off campus living.

Should I go through with taking ownership of the property and try to salvage it for profit or do I refrain from even involving myself in the situation as it may cost more than it's worth to save it?

I would rather lose 100 bucks a month in a solid area, than risk making 200 bucks a month out of state, class C-D, or in an area I don't fully understand. best of luck
