Can you get by with laminates or do you need real hardwood and ceramic tile.

No cheap carpet, three tone paint jobs (ceilings, walls and trim) and sometimes with accent walls, new light fixtures, new ceramic tile tub and surrounds and floors when it's time to replace existing carpet or linoleum.  

As for tile I like a thru body colored porcelain tile vs a topical color ceramic tile. 

Also, I am thinking of larger format tiles (9x18) for shower walls (marble-looking ceramic) which will should save money too such as this.

We had the option of 'taking' the dying ceramic business, but declined.

We build almost everything out of concrete and steel with ceramic bricks that don't burn.

The bathroom was a full gut down to the studs, new shower, ceramic tile, etc and I would say its a standard size bathroom.
