It is believed to be a fundametal Judeo-Christian philosophy (one of the many we've adopted into western society) but the truth is that if one checks the Bible - rarely was charity of any sort a secret.

Almost without exception, they are havens for the dreggs of society, including drug dealers, addicts, criminals, and other assorted scumbags.When landlords fail, they often will fill their units with anyone that walks into the property with money.

The rise of the market as it progresses creates a strange perception in some folks.

We are a changed society in many ways since 1932.

I guess the most successful and the least successful in our society tend to hold liberal social attitudes, while those stuck in the middle tend to have more socially conservative attitudes.

With our current entitlement society, the taxpayer is required to pay for these deadbeats, putting a much larger burden on society than in the great depression.

Unfortunatly society is to dependent and babied on credit for it to happen.

As the economy worsens, I believe that you'll see more of this nonsense - especially in our whiney, entitled victim society.
