The best ones I've seen that generate responses are postcards that on one side contain the information that your business card would have, and on the other what the actual letter would have.

. ;-)You are both right it has been proven (Source is unimportant) that Yellow letters are most effective when received +/- 24hrs of a Crescent moon and Postcards when +/- 24hrs of the Full moon.In an instance of a Blue Moon you want to make sure that is when your "Bulky" mail in a handwritten invitation envelope (Some debate over "Cream" or "Ivory") should hit.

You will find many investors who have a preference for a post card campaign, because you do not have to worry about the 'open rate'.I run 'yellow letter' campaigns using different verbage on all of the letters.

We use Standard Bulk Rate for all our postcards and they take about 10 to 12 days to be delivered (from the time our printer delivers them to the post office in California).

From what I have been reading from different sources in the forums, the mailings seem to only become effective around the 4th or 5th mailing to the same group of people and the numbers thrown around seem to be approximately 5k people you are sending a letter or postcard to every 4 to 6 weeks.
