I will have to say though, I think this could just be a symptom of the low inventory and inflated prices.

Certainly not a symptom of a depressed area.The population is not aging - there is a strong mix of working age population 20-60. 

These symptoms can also be just allergic reactions, as you mentioned, and not necessarily some sign of a serious illness created by mold. 

I agree with Dave Ramsey when he says that debt is a symptom of the real problem, which is your spending habits.

I can cite numerous instances where killing mold in an area occupied by hypersensitive people did NOT stop their symptoms.

IF that mold is a symptom of a bigger problem, then you need to know that and either walk away of negotiate a better price.
