Put dish soap on your finger and then smooth out as it won't stick to your finger.

And apparently their was a bar of soap in the washer machine lol.

Long story short, I bought my first home on my 1 year anniversary from getting a full time job (the first day I was qualified by the old rules of financing). 

There are other jurisdictions in Canada where you must compensate the tenant if the tenancy is being terminated for renovations (and you may have to allow them first option to return to the renovated unit) and there are still others where you must honour the existing lease until its termination/anniversary date.Of course, just because you ask, does not mean the Vendor will want to undertake the action.

I had to drive home down the busiest street in Memphis with soap all over my truck, stop by the cleaners and the grocery store. 

Fast forward to August 2016 and we start thinking about the coming one year anniversary.

I am wondering what do to about things like hand towels, soap etc for the house?

Maybe Murphy's Oil soap all of the wood and leave it as is and see if it rents.I say that because you don't know what's behind that paneling (cost $$$)(40 layers of wallpaper, giant cracks in the lath and plaster, etc...) and from the pic it looks like a lot of cabinets (cost $$$) to replace.If it were mine and I decided to leave it as is, I'd probably do the kitchen floor in (period type) 12 x 12 squares and replace the carpet with dark LVP and see how much rent I could get for it.Probably a new Formica top and a new Dish Washer (just to avoid service calls on the old one) and Greige the wall color.Of course from the pics I can't tell the condition of the cabinets--but have have seen similar ones of that age in incredible shape.Good Luck!
