In NC, for instance, selling your own home with seller financing is permitted by NCGS 53-244.040(d)(3) as is any investor, via NCGS 53-244.040(d)(8), "who, as seller, receives in one calendar year no more than five residential mortgage loans as security for purchase money obligations..." 

The last day of the calendar year is December 31st, 2017.
