I think our total expenses after 6 months were close to $27,000 including back rent (rent continued to accrue while we cleared the house), damages to the house,  lawyer's fees associated with the probate, and weeks of time spent trying to clean up the house and sell the stuff to dispose of it and earn money for the estate, etc..

Which every economist will tell you is the best way to fight inflation. it looks like it's worded to pierce through multiple LLCs like this and just talks about direct or indirect ownership:"In the case of a disqualified single family property owner, no deduction shall be allowed under this chapter for any interest paid or accrued in connection with any single family residential rental property owned (directly or indirectly) by such disqualified single family property owner."

Either way, either through judgement (lien theory) or contractual oblication (deed theory), the borrower will owe the difference between the amount owed + accrued interest + attorney's fees + late fees + other costs and the balance received from the sale to the lender as something called a "Deficiency Balance".
