Where the retail stores will suffer is the higher paid and better educated consumer with better credit.

There have definitely been multiple cases where adjacent buildings suffered damage during a natural disaster, but the insurance company refused to pay a dime and was not held liable in court.  

You are still "stuck" with a non-liquid asset that is exposed to the gyrations of the real estate market. were I have seen Multi and commercial suffer is the long lag times to bring new product to the market then over building and economy or jobs swing.. 

Home purchases suffer from affordability issues rentals will surge from increased demand.

Sometimes businesses grow too fast, partner with the wrong people or suffer from bad management decisions.

I hate to see people suffer, but I also believe that people deserve what they vote for...
