Then he didn't do what we agreed on the tub surround which cost me extra money (because it was already done when I stopped by to check out the work and he told me "don't worry it looks good") and then the tile floor he didn't completely finish and when I pointed out what we spoke about on the paperwork, he cursed at me and stormed out.His drywall guy left a hole in the wall, and he said he could finish it, so he started stuffing some newspaper in there and tried taping/mudding over it.

I would then be rid of the high interest debt and then... 50% of my net salary could go towards investing.I have never come across the answer for this situation in all of the REI, finance or self help books that I've read:  Do I start stuffing away that 35% now for when I find the great deal with the #'s that work and continue paying the minimum payments with all the interest (I would need to do this for a couple months for the down payment and such) or do I continue to educate myself, do market research and build my network while I pay down my debt over the next 8 months.....continuing to sit on the side-line?

On the other hand, it's not unusual any more to see attached and unattached housing stuffed anywhere they can fit in Portland so you may find buyers for each property individually just as well.

It is very sad for a investor to read that someone has stuffed their money under a mattress where it is earning absolutely no income, It is not earning it's keep lying dead and buried in a property, rental or personal, it needs to be flogged.

There might be sympathy in the investments you illustrated - bonds and real estate both falling, for example - but that fall, unless those pulling their money out of those vehicles are stuffing their mattresses, is going to buoy something else.
