They let a lot of stuff in the house go, I'm assuming due to financial strain, hence the short sale.  

If you dont have double pane glass windows be sure you have storm windows installed on the outside to create a pocket of insulating air between inside and outside.

This panel is in the corner of the living room, I just painted the cover the wall color, the whole thing.

I also warn against going into business with family and friends as the work will definitely put a strain on the relationship.

Some very old home still have single pane windows.

I would check out the utility costs, all electric, single pane windows, double glass sliding doors will make renters flee to more sustainable living.

The inspector said that these were the nicest units he'd ever been called into, but he said we had to do some very minor things - tighten a doorknob and recaulk a shower tub in one unit, and in the other replace a window pane that had a fine hairline crack in it, and repair a hairline crack in the wallboard in one place.  

If you're looking at potentially filing an eviction straining your relationship with them now might be an expensive decision. 

I agree with Patrick Liska , condensation between the panes of glass is always (99%) based on the age and construction of the window.

@Cam Coplin Luckily we have no disputes on rent - we paid the rent in full and owed nothing at the time we moved out.In terms of the damages - It feels unfair for the LL to point out, as we're leaving, that a previous tenant broke a single pane of the double-paned glass on a sliding door in the detached garage.
