( I could have just layed the wire in the trench but  I prefer conduit )  And then hook into the old well line .

Even though the service box might say 100 amps, and even though the main breaker at the top of the box may say 100 amps, the only way to really know this is by sizing the conduit/wire coming into the box from the meter.
