Some food for thought: there is no such thing as an unsubsidized unit of energy in the U.S. 

He was surprised and when I asked him if he thought it was a big deal he told me: NOT AT ALL!

I've been in your situation and nothing can prepare you for losing a parent.

You are on a great trajectory and learning curve because you are learning from your mistakes and also preparing to move slowly instead of scaling before you are ready.

I am not an expert here but my thought is that you would learn a lot by getting your license and have more credibility in the industry at large so if your time and finances allow- get that license:)
