A lifted Jeep, or if the sensors are too low, would compromise that safety feature of not letting the door close.

I guess this also made me think of it being a foundation issue...103 year-old home would probably show signs of a compromised foundation long ago, imho. sounds like it's just shoddy workmanship, but definitely get it inspected if/when you go under contract. 

Don’t compromise on your numbers and you should be okay in my opinion.

I don't know if any of the satellite cities work but if so, they probably won't have the appreciation that Portland does and all you may be doing is compromising both.
