Or the PM may talk to others about this, which is also none of their business until rent becomes late (if at all).There seems to be no way in which discussing it with either party will be a benefit; I only see how it would harm someone's reputation.

From what I have read in this thread, it sounds to me like the problem is the fact that you were not prepared for the worst case scenario and in doing so, placed not just you, not just the seller, but also a third party in harms way.
