There might be a small segment of the market that would prefer to sell to a "local guy" that sends out postcards with fake handwriting (which is now used by the local car dealers and lots of others). 

Just like some people snicker at the idea of trading in their current car to a dealer when they can sell it themselves for thousands more.  

The car dealer didn't  want to waste mailing expense and their sales time with people who most likely wouldn't qualify for a loan.
