Hello - can you recommend good and reliable general contractors who do not overcharge and take up jobs in the east Windsor, west Windsor, hamilton areas that can go with me to a subject property to estimate costs before I seal the deal?

I thought she was full of bad gas, but I wanted to be respectful, and after spending an hour on Google I could not find anyone saying they charged a flat $300 and 20% but then I got to thinking if I was one of those snake sales men would I tell people i would over charge them on line?

Without an initial quote you set yourself up for being over charged.  

They make more money over charging and have less stress.   

If they start slacking or trying to overcharge for change orders then we find someone else.

It will very very helpful to have some knowledge, it will be very easy for people to overcharge you if you don't have any background, it will be obvious to them. 

Or is the company she works for over charging? 

Don't let the lender steer you to someone who may be overcharging you.

What's most important is working with an agent that can give very accurate market values, someone who can put together an appropriate scope of working and a contractor that can be trusted to not over charge and can complete the job on schedule without someone looking over their shoulder.
