I own two rentals (one in a SD-IRA) and also invest in raw land.  

We have been in motel and single family rentals for about ten years in South Dakota.

I would say you're better insulated than somebody in N/SD, but the longer this "war on shale" will go, the more painful it will be. 

Should list your county and state the home is in to get better directed answers regarding the handling of the SD but yes, the SD does have to be held in a sperate account along with any prepaid items.  

For example, I did old expireds by searching for expireds beavercreek SD area in 2013 and having to cross reference them to see if they sold.
