The reason why this is so important to me is because within the next few months/year it is likely that there will be many undervalued assets and I need good bank (and credit) relationships to safely leverage it for any future investments.  

What condition is the house in, what is the rent, how many bedrooms and bathrooms, how is the school system, how safe is the neighborhood, etc. 

Then I would just be taking the easy/safe way. 

I would confirm what he is saying before moving, just to be safe.
