Does anyone have experience with accessory apartments? 

If you are going to stage I'd imagine you'd like a place to store a majority of your furniture and accessories.

Brian, I once lived in a condo and rented the one right next door with no problems or issues, slightly different context than sf and actually shared a wall even...But I do know many people who even live closer with accessory (or in-law) apts and make it work.

I'm an architect as well and I'm going to add an Accessory dwelling unit to it as well.

Based on the zoning you will find out if a MIL or Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) is allowable. 

This property is zoned U-SU-C1 which allows for Accessory Dwelling Units.

It was adding an accessory apartment in a bungalow.

Hello Bigger Pockets members,Here is the potential deal: 18 unit portfolio over three adjacent parcels including 2 multifamily apartment buildings, one mixed use building with a storefront and a 2 unit ADU (accessory dwelling unit behind it), a two stall garage, and vacant lot.

With regards to finding something that would be workable for you and them, have you thought about finding a property with a detached garage, putting in an accessory dwelling unit (ADU), and then renting out the front house to your parents, and the back house to another person?

Because its detached from the house would i have to call it an accessory dwelling unit?
