I believe that each individuals has their own set of criteria that can be used to address this question.Personally I made sure that my family would not suffer one bit if my investments failed.  

We did not have the option to sit on our duff and just enjoy existing, we would suffer berating daily for such.     

Looking to do this since my business suffers from seasonality so having the option to only do interest in slower months works better for cashflow reasons.
