What we went with is spray foaming the ceiling joists of the first floor throughout the house then, installed resilient channel in the living room for extra sound absorption.

It wasn't anything radical and unlike the changes to other areas like the public sector union laws, did not cause a massive protest in Madison, etcWell, that was great but one thing I learned that day, or half day as I had to leave early due to semi-emergency at jobsite but still got the massive binder of awesome info too, I learned that apparently in Milwaukee Cty (where ALL of these incredibly cheaply priced but getting decent rent places are that you coasties are foaming at the mouth about!)

Spray foam is great for insulation, useless for sound reduction, blown-in cellulose in much better for sound quality.

( if there are any sags or dips a good contractor will shim those with sleepers under the fiberboard or sloped foam ( the foam is extremely expensive tho) to ensure you have a flat functional roof when completed-I hope this helps let me know if you have any other questions ?

They also spray foamed in the basement.My husband was having a sensitivity in the basement and garage where his skin was itchy prickly so he removed the new ceiling tile and new carpet that was off gassing but it didn’t help.After the cellulose was installed, he started having breathing problems and felt as if the house was too tight.
