I would revisit the PMI thing to make sure you know what you are getting as well.In the future or for any borrower, I think the only real defense against much of this is taking ownership in your own loan application.

Interestingly enough I'd argue we're in a similar position today for the same reason: out of control military spending. 1/6 of our spending is on "national defense."
