about to make an offer on a nicely updated home in Seattle with a nice accessory dwelling unit / mother in law apartment. 

I rented out an in-law apartment for years, but it was in a residential area that was zoned to allow "accessory units"

Second largest tourist town in the South east behind Orlando.. and all these jobs stimulate accessory jobs.WE are KILLING it in SC..... why you would go anywhere else? 

That and fire-rating the ceiling and common walls between the basement {accessory} apartment and the main house.  

My condo has not appreciated and I need to perk it up with new accessories and small furniture if I continue to rent furnished.Does anybody have good experience with executive short term rental housing and whether the payoff with a furnished unit is better than unfurnished? 

I haven't yet bought RE but my first purchase will be owner financed & occupied with the goal of using sites like home away & Airbnb to rent out accessory units.

Does anyone have experience with accessory apartments? 

If you are going to stage I'd imagine you'd like a place to store a majority of your furniture and accessories.

Brian, I once lived in a condo and rented the one right next door with no problems or issues, slightly different context than sf and actually shared a wall even...But I do know many people who even live closer with accessory (or in-law) apts and make it work.
