The remaining interior trim, painting, cabinets/counters, flooring/tile, and landscaping typically run about 30% of the project cost on my residential jobs.All in all I say go for it if you are feel you are ready for it.

I find doorframes, outlets, and any broken pieces of trim around the house to be the most helpful places to "peak behind" and see how many layers I can spot.

Paint trim, you might need to paint the walls a ceilings too.At lest it's not as bad as meth!

I've seen dogs chew through it (beside the meter box where the fiber drop ran to the house), landscaping crews routinely cut it, sprinkler installers, homeowners clip it while trimming bushes/trees, even seen a case where wasps chewed through it!

On the walls it does create some issues where it meets p with trim but trim would be removed if you demoed the wall to studs anyway.

Again the basement is finished and doesn't need much other than new bilco doors that are leaking and some trim replaced.
